Neolithic CaniX

Following last years successful CaniX event, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust has invited us back to join in their flagship fundraising event (Sarsen Trail sponsored walk, Neolithic Marathon and Half Marathon). Our target for 2008 is to beat the £1,137.00 raised by the 63 CaniX UK runners at the event in May 2007. We will be offering a 13 mile (21km) long distance CaniX with the option of the standard 4 mile (6.5km) CaniX (there will be no 2.5km distance).

Both distances will follow the same linear route as the Neolithic Half Marathon (Charlton Clumps to Stonehenge). The 13 mile CaniX will start at 10:30am, half an hour before the marathon runners to avoid tangles and the heat of mid day. The 4 mile CaniX will start at 11am from Bustard Inn, also finishing at Stonehenge.

There is a free dog friendly shuttle between the start and finish for those that do not have anyone to drop them off at the start and drive their car to the finish.

Electronic ankle timing tags will be issued to all runners entering the 13 mile distance.

NB All 13 mile runners must carry a minimum of 1 litre of emergency water and dog bowl (see Fold-a-Bowl). It is advised that all 4 mile runners should do the same.

Any dog or person entering the 13 mile long distance CaniX should be experienced and confident that their dog can cope with the distance. If you have not entered any previous CaniX UK events, you must convince CaniX UK that your dog is fit enough to run. CaniX UK reserve the right to refuse a dog on the start line if deemed unfit.

The route follows the Ridgeway from the start point to Wexland before turning westward to cross part of the Salisbury Plain training area to the Bustard Inn and on to Stonehenge. The first half of the route is an undulating track, the second half is flat with some grassy footpaths. It can be muddy when wet; dusty and rutted when dry.
