Event: The Look Out, Bracknell Forest (26 March 2006) Join the Cani-Cross UK mailing list and receive email updates of future events CLICK HERE Look out, look out cani-cross is about! Who says England has rain, we had the driest day in March, albeit the course was boggy in parts from downpours the night before, but no rain to be had. There was a glimmer of sunlight later in the morning that was very cheerful to see. The course was through beautiful Crown Estate forest trails. The start was an annoying uphill that had to be eaten up before the tricky downhill, followed by the thrilling, undulating rollercoaster section which lasted 1.5km by which time you were pleased to see the Lower Star Post marking the half way point, an easy run to the Roman Post around the reservoir and onto the finishing straight. A good challenge for all. The Out Look Centre opened early for us, so food and drinks were available all day and I believe quite a few indulged heartily after the event. The Wellington Cycle Centre provided a dog wash for those that took the direct route through the puddles and ran with snorkels. It was a great day and as at every event new breeds arrived looking handsome in their dry cleaned coats, harnesses on and excited to get a move on to the start line. The Afghans didn't disappoint looking as elegant as always equipped with socks to help keep the mud from matting their coats. They set off at a blinding pace. It was great to see these guys shoot off with such enthusiasm. We saw Groenendaels looking every bit the wolf in their dark black coats towering over their mate that they live with - the Japanese Chin. The long haired Dachshund looking like he couldn't run a mile got down and dirty and had a blast, the Welsh Fox Hound, a first timer was very excited about it all and we were just as excited to see her run. It was great to see the Dalmatians, the Springers even a Clumber Spaniel this time. The Siberian Huskies, Akita's, German Shepherds and Rotti's all came and gave it some wellie. So many wonderful moments and Barney the Basset Hound came in with an amazing time of 34:26. Dogs just love to run no matter what the breed! The fastest adult time of the day over the 5.4km was S Bowers in a time of 22:01 and the fastest junior over the 2.4km course was G Goodwin in a time of 9:12. The next event on the Saturday 6 May 2006 at Holme Lacy, Hereford on gounds within the Pershore College Campus is through beautiful countryside and forests overlooking the River Wye. Cafe and toilets. Camping is available for those who want to stay over the Friday night (including toilets). This coincides with an open day at the college to which competitors get half price entry (normally £2 for adults, £1 for children and dogs get in for free!). The open day will include arena, dog shows, food/craft stalls, horse/dog displays, farm tours, tree climbing, orienteering and canoeing. A picture that sums up cani-cross. Springer Purdy and owner discussing the course - a truly loving moment.
Well done everyone and I hope all the muscles have recovered and you are in training for Hereford. Eileen Photo gallery |
