Haldon CaniX (5km and 2.5km) Date: Sunday 29 March 2009 LAST
YEAR Registration: 8:30 – 9:30am Caniteering Haldon Forest Park lies just south of Exeter and is a haven for birds of prey and home to over 30 species of butterfly. 48km of trails are available, 5km of which will be set out for the CaniX. The first half of the course meanders down through the trees on well maintained footpaths. The second half leads deeper into the forest on narrow tracks with a gradual climb back to the finish. The visitor centre was opened at the beginning of 2006. There is a cafe on site with toilets including shower facilities. Charges for the car park are £1 for half a day £2 for the whole day. There is a Play Trail for all-abilities with traditional and natural play features, whilst the Sensory Trail at Mamhead has been specially designed to stimulate the senses of visitors. After the A38/A380 split, continue on the A38 up a hill (still following signs for Plymouth and Exeter Racecourse). At the brow of this hill take the sharp left, sign posted Exeter Racecourse. Pass the main entrance to the Racecourse on your left (for those staying at Exeter Racecourse, this is the entrance to access the campsite), continue under the bridge. Follow the road to Haldon Forest entrance, just over a mile on the left. There is a charge for parking - 4hrs = £1, all day = £2.
